Key Equipment

Rock tin ore is characterized by high density and brittleness, making it prone to over-grinding during beneficiation. This characteristic necessitates minimizing over-grinding as much as possible during processing, while ensuring that cassiterite is fully decomposed.

Project Background

Tin ore is brittle and over-grinding tends to produce large amounts of fine-grained cassiterite which is difficult to recover effectively using conventional gravity separation equipment. In production double-roll crushing can reduce over-grinding and prevent the loss of fine particles in the tailings. Additionally double-roll crushing produces a uniform particle size distribution which facilitates stable grinding operations and reduces over-grinding during the grinding process.

After comparing multiple options, the customer selected the Hua Sheng Ming 1010  double roll crusher (2PGY1000×1000) to replace the original equipment for tin ore.

Operational Performance

After commissioning, the equipment performed stably in tin ore processing:

Wide Feed Size Range

Starting material 500 mm after three crushing processes the final product is less than 5 mm. The two rolls apply continuous pressure, uniformly crushing material in the roll gap without clogging.

The output particle size is uniform making it easy to control the final crush size.

The gap between the two rollers in a double-roller crusher can be adjusted according to the process requirements, resulting in a uniform product particle size with few oversized or undersized particles; closed-circuit screening can stabilize the final particle size at 5 mm or even finer.

Low Energy Consumption

In fine crushing operations, the energy consumption per unit of product for double-roll crushers is typically lower than that of impact crushers and some cone crushers. For customers in Africa—where power shortages are common and fuel costs are high in mining areas—low energy consumption offers greater economic efficiency.

Simple design, easy to maintain, and suitable for mining conditions in Africa

The double-roll crusher features a simple design. The roll shells are made of wear-resistant materials such as high-chromium alloy and manganese steel, making it suitable for tin ore with high quartz content. The equipment requires minimal daily maintenance and has low operator requirements, offering significant advantages under the limited conditions of African mining sites.

Reliable Hydraulic Protection

The equipment is equipped with a hydraulic retraction system that automatically activates when unbreakable material enters the tailings, preventing roll surface damage and ensuring continuous operation.

Customer Feedback

Since the equipment was put into operation, it has run stably, produced uniform particle sizes, minimized over-grinding, and maintained low energy consumption. It is well-suited to production conditions in African mining areas and has met production demands. According to customer feedback, the maintenance workload remains within manageable limits, the equipment operates smoothly, and it fully meets the requirements for continuous production.

Conclusion

Africa is rich in tin ore resources, but the brittle nature of tin and its tendency to be over-crushed place high demands on crushing equipment. Double-roll crushers, with their advantages of minimal over-crushing, uniform product particle size, low energy consumption, simple structure, and easy maintenance, are ideally suited to the crushing process requirements of African tin mines. When integrated into a properly designed crushing process, the double-roll crusher effectively protects tin and improves recovery rates in subsequent gravity separation, making it the preferred choice for medium- and fine-crushing equipment in African tin mining projects.
