Tailings slag is the solid waste generated after mineral processing. It has complex composition, fluctuating moisture content, and often contains hard metal particles. When handling tailings slag, traditional crushing equipment frequently suffers from clogging, rapid wear, and uneven discharge – seriously affecting production continuity and resource utilization efficiency. The HSM tailings slag crusher series is specifically developed for such challenging materials. With its core focus on “no clogging, high wear resistance, and controllable discharge,” it provides a reliable crushing solution for underground backfilling, road aggregate, and re-processing of tailings slag.

Comparison of materials crushed by tailings slag crusher
1. Screen‑free gravity discharge – completely solves clogging
Tailings slag contains a high amount of fine mud and moisture. The screen plates of conventional crushers are easily clogged, leading to frequent shutdowns for cleaning. The HSM tailings slag crusher adopts a screen‑free structure. Once the material is crushed to a size smaller than the roll gap, it falls directly by gravity without any retention zone. Combined with a self‑cleaning tooth profile design, material does not accumulate on the roll surfaces. Even when handling tailings slag with high moisture and high fine mud content, the equipment maintains continuous and stable operation.
2. High‑wear‑resistant tooth plates – extended replacement cycle
Metal particles and quartz sand remaining in tailings slag cause severe wear on crushing teeth. This series uses high‑chromium alloy hardfacing tooth plates with excellent wear resistance, effectively resisting the cutting and impact of hard particles. The tooth plates have a split structure – when local wear occurs, only the damaged tooth plate needs to be replaced, not the entire roll, significantly reducing maintenance costs.
3. Low‑speed shearing crushing – controls over‑crushing

Various tooth profiles of tailings slag crusher
Impact crushers tend to generate excessive fines, which are not suitable for underground backfilling or road construction. The HSM double tooth roll crusher works on the low‑speed, high‑torque shearing principle, applying gentle tensile and shearing forces rather than high‑speed impact. The product is mostly irregularly shaped lumps with very few fines. When used for backfilling, it reduces binder consumption; when used for road construction, the gradation is more reasonable.
4. Hydraulic discharge size adjustment – flexible process adaptation
Different downstream applications require different particle sizes. This series is equipped with a hydraulic gap adjustment system, allowing the operator to quickly set the roll gap from the control panel. Discharge size adjustment is convenient and requires no disassembly of parts.
5. Multiple overload protection – safe and reliable
When tramp iron or other uncrushable material enters the feed, the overload protection system (fluid coupling or electronic sensor) automatically responds – the rolls reverse or stop, discharge the foreign object, and then resume normal operation, effectively protecting core components.
Underground backfilling – Crushed tailings slag replaces part of the backfill aggregate, reducing tailings discharge and lowering binder consumption.
Road base material – Used directly as road subbase, with high consumption volume and good compaction.
Re‑processing – Liberates valuable minerals for recovery through jigging, magnetic separation, flotation, etc.
