Q1: Are roll crushers and classifiers the same type of equipment?
No. Although they often appear on the same production line, their functions and positions are completely different: roll crushers are for “crushing,” while classifiers are for “separating.”
A roll crusher is a crushing device that uses two counter-rotating rollers to apply squeezing and shearing forces to materials, breaking them down before discharge. Depending on the roller surface, they can be divided into smooth rollers and toothed rollers.
Classifiers, however, have two different meanings that need to be distinguished:
Type 1: Spiral Classifier (commonly used in mineral processing). This equipment classifies materials based on the different settling velocities of particles in water. Fine particles remain suspended in the water and are discharged with the overflow, while coarse particles sink to the bottom of the tank and are pushed back to the ball mill by the spiral for further grinding. It is often used in closed-circuit with ball mills.
Type 2: Sizing Crusher (Hua Sheng Ming’s core product). This is a crushing device that integrates both crushing and classification functions, but it is essentially a crusher, not a classifier. Particles smaller than the discharge size pass through directly without being crushed, while only larger materials are broken by the shearing and tensile action of the toothed rollers. This “classification first, crushing second” approach effectively avoids over-crushing.
Q2: What roles do they play in the production process?
In a complete mineral processing line, they are typically in an upstream-downstream relationship, not a substitute for one another:
Roll crusher: Positioned at the front of the line, responsible for reducing large raw ore to a size suitable for subsequent processing. Suitable for coarse and medium crushing of brittle block materials in coal, power, mining, and metallurgy industries.
Spiral classifier: Positioned after the grinding stage, forming a closed-circuit with the ball mill to separate the mill discharge by particle size. Coarse particles are returned to the ball mill for further grinding.
Sizing crusher (Hua Sheng Ming): Can be placed in the crushing stage to achieve “screening while crushing,” allowing qualified fine materials to pass through directly while larger materials continue to be crushed. This avoids over-crushing and simplifies the process flow.

Heavy-Duty Sizing Crusher
Q3: What classification-related products does Hua Sheng Ming offer?
Hua Sheng Ming’s product line includes two main types of equipment related to classification:
1. Heavy-Duty Sizing Crusher (Core Product)
This is a device that integrates crushing and classification. It has a processing capacity of 8-1500 tons per hour and handles feed sizes from 1-1500mm. The working principle is: when material falls between the two rollers, particles smaller than the discharge size pass through directly without being crushed, while larger materials are broken by the splitting, shearing, and tensile action of the toothed rollers before being discharged. The equipment features low-speed operation and specially designed tooth profiles, resulting in low over-crushing and uniform output.
2. Toothed Roll Crusher
Toothed roll crushers also have some classification capability—material smaller than the roll gap passes through directly without being crushed. Suitable for crushing medium-hardness materials such as coal, coke, limestone, and slag.
